The Movies
If you know us, we like movies. Me especially. But we both just love "going" to the movies. With Lincoln around we haven't gone as often as we used to so when we get to go we really enjoy it and we make sure that the movies we're going to see are going to be worth it.
Of course, our careful planning doesn't always result in us seeing winner movies. So, I thought I'd give y'all a run down of the movies we've seen in the recent months and our general concensus on them. So, here it goes:
Jumper
We were really excited about this one. The previews made it look awesome! Monica read the book it's based on in high school and even then, she had told a friend that it would make a great movie. Unfortunately, this was a big fat disappointment. The special effects were awesome and I think all the actors are usually great in a movie but the story just plain sucked. It got more and more stupid and the ending is just lame. They try to set up a sequal. . .yeah, it bombed at the box office. Bummer we paid full price on it. It's not even worth a dollar movie.
Enchanted
Everyone told us that this was a great show, lots of fun. We totally thought it was going to be Disney making fun of Disney and we were looking forward to seeing that. Well, it was . . . cute, but mostly lame. We had some good laughs. There is a scene where the princess directs the city animals to clean the apartment that is really funny. Overall, though the movie kind of fell flat for us. Don't get me wrong, I love Disney but I think they just need to keep the animation and live action separate. That said, I'll always have a soft spot for Pete's Dragon!
Iron Man
Obviously there was a lot of hype surrounding this movie and I totally got caught up in it. Monica never did at all. In fact, when we got to the theatre, Monica was still saying "This is going to be dumb!" Well, it certainly didn't disappoint me. The effects, story, and actors all did a fantastic job. It was a totally fun movie! I'd go see this one again. In fact, I'll definitely see this one again on the big screen. Monica actually liked this movie. She thinks it's because she went into it with really low expectations. Whatever it was, we both enjoyed it and would see it again.
National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets
Boy, talk about a big disappointment! The first one was so much fun. This one started out really intriguing and entertaining for the first hour or so. It really felt like the first movie. But then, the silliness of it tipped the balance into ridiculous. And by the time they get to the secret rocky temple thing behind Mount Rushmore, you just want it to be over as quickly as possible. So sad. I read they are planning on doing another one and that Nick Cage would do even more than that. As much as 2 sucked, I'm totally willing to give this franchise another chance though so they better not jack it up.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I have to tread carefully here since you all know the ferver with which Harrison Ford is treated in the Jensen household. Unless you are a Nazi, you love Indiana Jones and we are no exception. We were so excited when we heard they were finally going to give us another adventure with our favorite whipcracker! I was even more excited when I read that Steven Spielburg was going to keep things simple and film in the old style and keep the CGI low key. And then George Lucas happened and ruined that plan. So sad. Before I get to that though, I can't knock Harrison at all! He did a phenomenal job as Indy. He was noticeably older but man the guy can still kick butt! Aside from some stupid CGI prairie dogs, the first hour of the movie was really fun; exactly what an Indy movie should be. There's an awesome car chase scene where Indy gets pulled off a motorcycle into a car, where he beats up the bad guys and climbs back out onto the motorcycle on the other side. I laughed so hard at that. It was funny. Then, they got to the jungle and all Lucas broke loose and you have to endure Shia Leboeuf swinging on jungle vines with a pack of monkeys. Things just go downhill from there. But, overall it was a fun movie. Nostalgia helps too. Monica still got weak in the knees, blushed, and got a little bit giddy watching Indy in action. It's worth seeing.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
We saw this one last night so it's still pretty fresh in our minds. It was really really good. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one when it first came out but it has grown on me. I was looking forward to this sequal. Monica wasn't sure she'd like it. It was really well done and had a lot of awesome action sequences. There's one scene where a bunch of griffens do a nighttime attack on the bad guy's castle. Pretty awesome! We both want to see this one again. You definitely want to see it on the big screen if you can.
