Leaks, stains, and spills, Oh my!

This has been one of those weekends where you kind of wish there was a "do over" button somewhere you could press for another try.

This is the drain for our kitchen sink, which apparently decided it was done being the middle man between our sink and the drain pipes and belched water all over the floor. The rubber gasket had all kinds of junk. I suspect it was simply just shoddily installed in the first place. It turns out that the Home Depot doesn't sell just the gasket so I had to buy the whole drain and install it. Behold my handiwork:

I have to say I'm rather impressed with myself. With no formal plumbing training whatsoever, I was able to dismantle, replace, and install the new drain successfully, with no leaks, pipe damage, or even plumber's crack (at least that I know of). And apparently I've attained a new level of respect from Monica who does not exactly consider me to be that much of a handyman. After 7 years of marriage, it's nice to know I can still surprise her about some stuff :)

This is a jug of milk with a big crack in it. . .and it pretty much symbolizes our Sunday morning today. We got up a bit late, around 6:30am. I know that doesn't sound late but our church starts at 8am so with a toddler and an infant to get ready, 6:30 is late. I know, bummer!

So we got up late and started getting ready. We had tried to be all prepared so we wouldn't have to rush. Monica ironed my shirt last night so we wouldn't have to this morning. I put it on and noticed it had 2 big rust stains on the front from our iron. No worries, I thought, I have another clean white shirt I can iron quickly. I started doing that when all of a sudden the iron started throwing up water all over my shirt. It had come unplugged and I guess our cheapo iron can't hold it's load when unplugged. Nice! Luckily, this time the water didn't stain THIS shirt with pee-yellow polkadots.

Meanwhile, Monica was curling her lovely, shiny, healthy hair and as she curled a particularly beautiful lock of hair, her iron rubbed against her arm leaving her with burn mark that looks remarkably like Napoleon's hat.

After the drama upstairs, we came downstairs to get a quick breakfast. I fixed Lincoln a quick bowl of rice krispies and Monica went to get the milk out of the fridge, a brand new unopened 1 gallon jug of 1% milk. I don't know if she was distracted by my dashingly good looks or Lincoln's loud requests for cow juice but her fingers grasped and then suddenly let go of the jug of milk, which, from my vantage point, appeared to launch itself across the kitchen, bursting when it hit the ground, spewing milk several feet in every direction. We both kind of stared for a minute and Monica finally said, "Well, I haven't done that in a long time!"

So we got everything cleaned up and got to church a bit late, but not so late that we didn't get a soft bench, which we've found to be the ideal location to contain. . .I mean entertain a toddler. But Linc wasn't feeling all religious today and we both ended up spending most of our time in the church foyer during the first meeting.

What's the cure for a less than stellar start to a day? The Sunday afternoon nap! Ahhhhhhh!

Oliver's Blessing

We blessed Oliver at church on Sunday. The UT Jensen' and Kara and Tyler made a special trip from Utah and endured the AZ heat and humidity to be with us for the special occasion. Our friends and family were here to support Oliver on this special day, unfortunately there are not any pictures of the rest of the family. Probably because everyone was so tired and full from the luncheon my mom provided and from getting up early; our ward meets at 8 am.

I honestly love my brother John, he is one of our best friends and an awesome uncle!
